“Just like mom’s”: flavorful and fluffy pretzels from Alex Yakutov

Pretzels on the knivesThe fragrant aroma of sweet pretzels evokes childhood memories for most of us. And on April 26, we have a festive opportunity to cook them, as it is Pretzel Day. Fragrant pretzels – an easy recipe from Alex Yakutov, the Chef, an expert in the reality TV show On Knives on New Channel.

“I call them pretzels, just like my mom’s. She used to bake these delicacies with tangerine zest. But she didn’t just grate the citrus fruit. We dried the tangerine zest first, and then my mom chopped it finely,” says Alex Yakutov. “When she baked pretzels, the house was filled with the incredible smell of tangerines. That’s my childhood memory.”

Ingredients:
  • eggs – 3 pcs.
  • butter – 120 g
  • sugar – 100 g (and a little for sprinkling)
  • milk – 300 ml (and 1 tbsp for the coating)
  • flour – 500 g
  • baking powder – 1 tsp. l.
  • baking soda – 1 tsp. l.
  • salt – a pinch
Cooking pretzels:
  1. Beat the eggs and sugar with a fork. Add the butter and mix everything together. Pour in the milk and mix thoroughly until smooth.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Now combine the dry and liquid mixtures, mixing well. Knead the dough by hand, transfer it to a small bowl, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Let stand for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into several pieces. Roll them up in the shape of pretzels. And if you’re cooking with a child, you can mold the treats into the shape you want.
  5. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Put the baking sheet in the oven preheated to 180 degrees. Bake the pretzels for about 20 minutes. They should become ruddy and golden.

Bon appetit!
