British Prime Minister Liz Truss announces resignation The politician stated this at a briefing on October 20.

Truss emphasized that she came to power in a period of “great economic and international instability.” However, she could not live up to the mandate entrusted to her by the conservatives, and that is why she is resigning:

“We have set out a vision of a low-tax, high-growth economy that will take advantage of BrexitHowever, I recognize that, given the situation, I cannot fulfill the mandate to which I was elected by the Conservative Party. That is why I spoke to His Majesty King to announce that I am stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss explained.

Elections for the new leader of the conservative party and the prime minister will be held next week.

It will be recalled that the crisis in Great Britain was provoked by the plans of Truss and former finance minister Kwazi Kwarteng to reduce taxes and allocate funds to support the population with subsidies. The government did not explain where it would take the money, which frightened financiers and Britain’s allies. The Bank of England had to intervene in the situation.

Liz Truss headed the British government just 45 days ago – on September 6, replacing Boris Johnson in this position. In general, in five weeks, Truss lost two prime ministers, the support of the parliamentary faction and the electorate. Her approval rating barely reaches 15%, lower than any British prime minister in modern history.
