Timur Miroshnychenko, host of “ZhVL Presents” on “Breakfast with 1+1”, together with his wife Inna, joined TSN as part of the “United News” telethon.
There are 10 children per adoptive parent in Ukraine! According to the National Social Service, 1656 people in Ukraine are currently looking to adopt a child, and 15697 orphans and children deprived of parental care are waiting to be adopted. Human rights activists say that Ukrainians are afraid to adopt children who have any diagnoses or disabilities.
Together with the hosts Natalia Ostrovska and Yevhen Plinsky, the couple analyzed the necessity of secrecy in adoption. This was prompted by a statement by a Ukrainian MP who emphasized that it is not permissible to display an adopted child and deprive him or her of the right to the secrecy of adoption. Instead, Timur and Inna believe that the deputy is stuck in the Soviet nomenclature.
“The fact is that the deputy is also a lawyer, and just like me, he knows the rules of law. Adoption secrecy is the right of the adoptive parents: they can keep it or not. In our case, the secret of adoption is out of the question. We cannot force older children to keep silent. One way or another, two years will pass, and Mia or Marko will say that there was a time when Marcel was not there, or there was a time when their parents went to Marcel’s orphanage. We are public people, everyone knows that we have two children. So where would the third one suddenly come from? I don’t want my child to find out from someone that she is from an orphanage. And I think that an adopted child is absolutely normal. A secret is when you hide something you don’t want to say and are ashamed of. Why hide the fact that a child has a slightly different path?” says Inna Miroshnychenko.
The couple notes that they want to show society by their example that an adopted child is absolutely no different and has the same rights as others.
Practicing psychologist Yulia Fomina joined the conversation in the studio. She also believes that any secrets will only destroy trust. The psychologist assures that the only reason for keeping the secret may be on the part of the state authorities to ensure the safety of the family.
“What happens within the family is the choice of each individual family. On the psychological side, when a child matures to a certain stage, he or she already feels a level of trust in the parents, when any secrecy is impossible. The child feels it as a betrayal and separation from the parents. Therefore, I do not recommend hiding the fact of adoption from children,” Yulia Fomina comments.
Timur and Inna Miroshnychenko wish everyone who wants to adopt a child not to lose faith under any circumstances and to act. You shouldn’t wait for a call from the service, because it can take years. “If you really want it, you have to make a little effort,” Timur believes.
