Mail scam: Olena-Kristina Lebed warns

Olena-Kristina LebedDuring the period of full-scale war, Ukrainians began to use the mail much more. They send parcels for relatives who are far away, for the military, for IDPs who need certain things. Unfortunately, scammers have noticed this as well. Now they also find victims through the mail. Olena-Kristina Lebid, host of the TV show “Scammers in the Networks” (New Channel), spoke about a new scam that is gaining popularity.

“The essence of the scam is as follows: you receive a message from Nova Poshta that a parcel is coming to you. The sender’s name doesn’t tell you anything, but a note in the ‘parcel description’ says there are documents! That’s what makes you go to the post office to pick up the package. After all, it’s such a time that who knows, maybe he lost something somewhere and didn’t notice. “This is the first hook of the scammers!” explains Olena-Kristina Lebid. “At the post office, you receive a parcel, open it and see a certificate for 500 hryvnias for household goods! There is also a small pendant with a trident, which you won’t notice right away. At the bottom of the certificate is a website where you can redeem it and choose something as a gift for the specified amount. Sounds great, right? But there is a condition: you have to take this pendant. I took a larger photo for you. So that you can see that the symbolism is relevant, no question, but the workmanship is terrible. And the price for the quality is about 10 UAH. But the shipment is valued at 265 hryvnias!”

Of course, someone will definitely take this parcel for the symbol, for example. It is a good idea to hang a small trident around your neck. Someone will pick up the parcel for a gift worth UAH 500. But! No one will stand in line at the post office to check the site indicated on the certificate… Except the main scammer, of course

“I checked the website from the certificate. It doesn’t exist!” says Lebed. “However, a person can quickly pay 265 hryvnias for a 10-hryvnia pendant, come home, open the website, and realize that they have been scammed. There is no website, the pendant is of poor quality, and the certificate can be thrown in the trash. You wasted your time, went to get the documents, got something completely different, and lost money and your own bummer. Take care of yourself and don’t fall for dubious messages about parcels!”
