Timur Miroshnichenko on suspicions of plagiarism by the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 winner
Timur Miroshnychenko, the permanent commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest from Ukraine, host of ZhVL and Breakfast with 1+1 live from Liverpool, shared his impressions of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 final, commented on the suspicions of plagiarism by Loreen, and revealed his favorite at this year’s contest.
Timur has known the winner from Sweden, Loreen, for a long time, since 2012, when she won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. This year’s meeting on the sidelines of the competition was touching:
“We hugged each other like old friends who hadn’t seen each other for a long time.”
Loreen was a favorite of the bookmakers from the very beginning and eventually won, receiving 583 points from the audience and national juries of the participating countries. This is her second victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. Timur told us how Loreen is feeling now and what his expectations are for next year’s competition:
“She is, of course, happy. She was counting on this victory, as was the whole of Sweden. It will be very symbolic that next year Sweden will host the contest, just in time for the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision victory. One of the biggest stars born at Eurovision. That’s why I think there will be such a fantastically amazing show based on this event. Loreen is happy and doing well. She said she was looking forward to coming back to Ukraine. Because she has actually been to Ukraine many times to give performances.”
However, the winner of Eurovision 2023 was suspected of plagiarism. The network believes that her entry song Tattoo is similar to the Ukrainian singer Mika Newton’s song “Captive”. The track was also compared to songs by ABBA and even by Adele. However, none of the artists have commented on anything yet. The hosts Lyudmyla Barbir and Ruslan Senichkin asked Timur about this.
“In any case, before a song is approved, it first goes through a national selection, then it goes to the European Broadcasting Union. Before the song is approved to represent that country at Eurovision, it goes through a commission. If it passes, it means that those responsible for this did not notice any plagiarism. So, presumably, everything is fine. In fact, there are a lot of songs that are similar to each other.”Timur says.
Miroshnychenko also told us who was his favorite among the participants from Ukraine. Like many European viewers and even his family, Tim was rooting for the Finnish participant Käärijä. This year, the boy received the highest number of points from the audience, but in the end he took only 2nd place.
“Cha Cha Cha is my kids’ favorite song. They asked me to make sure their uncle won. I didn’t do anything special, because my uncle was doing well, but I was rooting for him. It’s a very cool story. This is a simple, open-minded kid with no connections, nothing, who just made his way to the top with his attitude and talent. Just 4-5 years ago, he was working as a salesman in an electronics store, and today he is the No. 1 artist in Finland because of his desire. It’s a great example of how if you have a goal and faith in yourself, you can achieve great results. I was rooting for him.”Timur shared.
