Timur Miroshnichenko told all the secrets of preparing for Eurovision 2023

Timur MiroshnychenkoTimur Miroshnychenko, host of “Breakfast with 1+1” and Live TV on 1+1 Ukraine, has been the official commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine for almost 20 years. So Eurovision 2023 is no exception. Timur and his Liverpool colleague Sam Quek will also host the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Opening Ceremony on the official YouTube channel.

In 2023, Eurovision was supposed to be held in Ukraine, but due to Russia’s full-scale military invasion, the contest was moved to Liverpool, UK. Miroshnychenko spoke about the preparations for the music competition, which have been going on for two months:

“It takes me at least an hour every day to correspond with the British. They communicate exclusively via email, although there are also phone calls and Zoom meetings. But they do not use any messengers for communication like we do. I have not one line of work this year, but a dozen, so this correspondence takes so much time. On top of that, I have Zoom meetings almost every day in different areas. We have the longest “zooms” about the turquoise carpet – the official opening of Eurovision, which will take place on May 7. My British colleague Sam Quek and I discuss each artist, studying their biographies, their superstitions, and their tricks.”

Timur noted that the competition has its own prohibitions and rules that must be followed. So every remark of the host is carefully checked by a large number of people to avoid offending the viewer.

“Eurovision has its own values, the whole world watches it. Everyone has their own religion, their own attitude to certain acute issues, so it is important that every word of the host is balanced. Although I will have more opportunities for improvisation on the track. I can’t disclose all the details yet, but there will be an episode with my participation in every broadcast. Of course, all my lines are also carefully written and honed to meet Eurovision standards. I remember when I hosted Eurovision in Kyiv, the hosts and I would go on stage, rehearse the 23rd version of the script, and someone would always come up to me afterwards and say: “Everything is cool, but let’s change this word, because it might offend someone,” the TV presenter recalls.

However, Timur Miroshnichenko noted that this year’s Eurovision 2023 scenario will include a lot of classic British humor:

“British humor is very cool, but it’s a bit specific for the Ukrainian audience, so we don’t understand everything. The British treat all situations with humor. They try to make a light form of everything serious. That’s why the most important words can be said in a simpler way, and the effect will be even greater.”

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 final will take place on May 13 in Liverpool.
