The dangers of gel nail polish: top 3 myths
Gel polish or shellac has been a trend for several years. It’s hard to find a girl in society today who doesn’t wear or has never worn gel polish on her nails – absolutely everyone does it. The gel polish is very comfortable to wear. For 2.5 weeks, you can forget about doing manicures and varnishing your nails. However, there is still a percentage of girls in society who are still afraid to cover their nails with gel polish, saying that it can negatively affect their health. Woman Magazine decided to collect the top 3 myths about gel polish that prevent beauties from enjoying a long-term manicure.
Myth 1: UV lamp causes skin diseases
The girl keeps her hands under the lamp for a maximum of 4-5 minutes during the session, which is too little time for the ultraviolet to penetrate deep into the skin. It’s also worth noting that the new generation of LED lamps now have minimal risk to the skin. Such lamps emit a long-wave range of ultraviolet light (from 375 to 410 nanometers), which is not harmful to humans.
Myth 2: Gel polish can cause allergies
It is worth remembering that gel polish should be worn for no more than two weeks. Toxins that accumulate in the body over a long period of wearing gel polish can begin to “act” under favorable conditions, such as stress or a decrease in immunity. In this case, an allergy can occur. But, again, this happens once in a while.
Myth 3: You need to “rest” your nails once in a while
The nail plate is essentially “dead”. Nails do not breathe by themselves. They are composed of dead cells, perform a protective function in the body, and do not participate in the body’s metabolic processes that require oxygen. Therefore, it is pointless to give them a “rest” from the coating. On the contrary, gel polish coating creates a water-repellent barrier that prevents exposure to tap water, household chemicals, etc.
