On March 20, New Channel viewers will watch the series Moloda, which tells the story of a book publishing house. Filmed before the full-scale invasion, the sitcom distracts from the difficult reality and immerses in the world of contemporary Ukrainian literature. Filming among the books did not leave the actors aside, they recalled their favorite literary heroes and authors. Actress Olga Zhukovtsova, who plays the main character in the TV series Moloda, shared her special list of must-read books with Novyy Kanal.

“Games People Play” by Eric Berne

Every person, whether they realize it or not, plays games: marital, sexual, rivalry with friends or colleagues. The author describes more than 120 games in which people engage each other and shares techniques to help get out of them.

“I read a lot of psychological books,” says Olha Zhukovtsova, “I have a lot of them downloaded on my phone. But this one is one of my favorites.”

“The skill of the actor. The Chubbuck Technique”, by Ivana Chubbuck

An acting teacher with Ukrainian roots, Ivana Chubbak, has trained some of the best Hollywood stars. Among her students: Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Jared Leto and others. In the book, she shares her methodology for improving acting skills.

“It’s one of my favorite professional books,” admits the actress of the TV series Moloda. “It will be interesting to anyone who is interested in acting.” 

“Do Oxen Roar as Manger’s Do?” by Panas Myrnyi and Ivan Bilyk

A socio-psychological novel that depicts the life of a Ukrainian village through the prism of historical events and the hopelessness that pushes the protagonist to criminal activity.

“Many people read this work at school, and I read it too,” Olha recalls, “and recently I decided to refresh my memory, and this time I perceived it completely differently. I recommend everyone to read it again.”

The Ukrainian poet is one of the symbols of resilience. Despite her serious illness, Lesya Ukrainka never complained about it, and it is difficult to find any mention of the disease in her works. The poet was far ahead of her time in her worldview. She also introduced the fashion for embroidered shirts among the Ukrainian nobility.

“I love Lesya Ukrainka’s poems,” says the actress. – Every time I read it, I find new meanings. By the way, I know many of her poems by heart.”

A series of books about one of the most famous literary characters of all time will captivate you from the very first page.

“When I was a child, the first hero I fell in love with was Tarzan,” admits Olga Zhukovtsova. “I recently found my first Tarzan book and read it to my son at night. He was very interested, because the hero communicates with different animals, tribes and gets into interesting stories. I advise parents to read it with their children.”
