Xi Jinping becomes the head of China for the third time

China

Xi Jinping was unanimously elected President of the People’s Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission on March 10 at the 14th National People’s Congress. This was reported by theXinhua media outlet.

The voting was attended by 2,952 people, and the decision on his candidacy was made unanimously. Also during the meeting, First Vice Premier of the State Council Han Zheng was elected Vice President of China.

Xi Jinping became the first Chinese leader in history to be elected to a third term.

“In China, the presidency – or ‘head of state’ in Chinese – is mostly a ceremonial title. The real power is held by the head of the party and the military  – two key roles that Xi also holds and was re-elected to at a key Communist Party congress in October. Nevertheless, his reappointment as head of state officially completes his transition into his second decade in power,” CNN journalists said.
