Svyatoslav Vakarchuk and the co-founder of the iconic Massive Attack Robert Del Naja released a joint single. A remix of OE‘s song “Hugs,” said Mykhailo Fedorov.

Since the invasion began 12 months ago, Vakarchuk has performed 179 impromptu shows for civilians and the military across Ukraine. The track “Obiymy (Legacy of War Mix)” was reworked by Del Naja and Ewan Dickinson last March and is now released by his label Battle Box. In April, we will see a vinyl release of the B-side (“Field Recordings / 2022”) from Deepgrooves, the most environmentally friendly vinyl plant in the world.

“He released this track in support of Ukraine. Robert and I met in the summer of 2018, after their very significant concert in Kyiv. Everyone who was there remembered the phrase in Ukrainian that ran on the screen behind the musicians, which turned out to be prophetic: “We are in this together.” Robert was one of the first people to call me after the full-scale invasion. That’s when he came up with the idea for this track. Thank you, my friend, for your support of Ukraine. It’s valuable!” says the singer. Svyatoslav Vakarchuk on Instagram. 

All proceeds from the single’s sale will be transferred to the famous English photographer Giles Dewley’s Legacy of War Foundation. And from there, through UNITED24, to the “Reconstruction of Ukraine” project to restore the houses destroyed in the Kyiv region. This program will allow 4,237 Ukrainians to return to their homes in Irpin, Borodyanka, Gostomel, Buzove and Mila.

As a reminder, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, the leader of the band “Okean Elzy” , has joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its main goal is to support the morale of Ukrainians. He went to Lviv after the war started. There he went to the military registration and enlisted in the army. He currently holds the rank of lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“The Lviv Regional Civil Administration sent me on a business trip to travel around Ukraine and inspire people. This is how it looks like. That’s why I am in my place, and if necessary, I will definitely defend the country with arms in my hands,” Vakarchuk commented, .
