Nadiya Matveeva told how to cook food outdoors

Many Ukrainians are left without electricity and gas as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia. Nadiya Matveeva , host of the reality show “Happy in Seven Days” and the column “Reliable Tips” on STB, told how you can cook food on a bonfire.

In times of war, you need to be armed with life-saving information. If you are not able to prepare food at home, pay attention to the TV presenter’s advice.

How to cook food if there is no gas and electricity:

  • If possible, buy a few bags of coal or special briquettes for the fire in advance. Have a supply of matches at home.
  • Set up a place for a bonfire in the yard: clear it of garbage, dry leaves and grass, make a small depression. Place fireproof bricks or stones on both sides. Put an iron cover or a sheet of metal on them. On such a “stove” you can cook both in pots and pans.

  • Aluminum dishes are best for a bonfire. It is not afraid of flame, has high thermal conductivity. In it, dishes are prepared faster.
  • The best dish in such conditions is porridge with stew. Cereal consumption is approximately 80 grams per person. Soak it in the evening, then cooking will take less time. A sweet version of porridge – with condensed milk and raisins. These are products that are stored for a long time, so you can stock up on them in advance.
  • If there is foil for cooking, you can bake vegetables. For example, put a piece of lard between two halves of a potato, add salt, and wrap it in foil. Put in hot ashes, sprinkle on top. Turn several times.

  • Do you want to comfort the children? Prepare the sweet dough, cut it into ribbons, roll it on sticks (so that the layers are separate, otherwise they will not be baked) and keep it over the fire until the crust is golden brown.
  • Did you cook it? Fill the fire with water or cover it with sand. Always remember about fire safety. Be aware that conifer branches produce a lot of sparks.
  • Do not keep inflammable and flammable things near the fire.
  • It is better to cook during the day, so that the fire does not attract too much attention in the dark.
