Alyona Alyona admitted that she is proud of her rural background
The successful and very popular rapper Alyona Alyona spent most of her life in the village. She was born in the village of Kapitanivka in the Kirovohrad region, and at the age of 13 she and her family moved to Baryshivka in the Kyiv region.
“Some of the best memories of my life are associated with my childhood in the village. We used to swim in the ponds. We caught fish. We ate fruit picked from a tree and wiped our hands on ourselves,” she recalls.
Alyona Alyona is not ashamed of her origin from the village. On the contrary, he considers it a great advantage.
“I sincerely believe that the saying that you can take a man out of a village, but not a village out of a man, is a reason for pride. Because people from the countryside are the hardest workers. They have the greatest ambitions and desire to achieve something. They also have the best childhood memories,” said Alyona Alyona.
With her story, the rapper supported the Ukrainology project and its information campaign “Who Am I?” aimed at debunking the myth that being from a small town or village is a shame.
“Young people are often ashamed of their town, village, or community because of the stereotypes created by Russian influence about ‘hillbillies’ and marginalized people. The goal of the campaign is to break this stereotype. To show that success does not depend on the size and number of people living in your community. Every Ukrainian village and city is special, and we want young people to stop being shy and, on the contrary, to see this peculiarity and tell others about it,” says Daria Karpenko, head of the Ukrainology project.
Along with Alyona Alyona, other influencers spoke about the village or city where they were born, and children and teenagers took up the campaign. The campaign is being implemented on social media, namely on TikTok, where it can be followed using the hashtag #Ukrainology.
As a reminder, Ukrainology is a digital project for young people on Instagram and TikTok about Ukraine, its features, traditions, culture, and language. It is implemented by the NGO UMIND. It also has an English-language version on TikTok to disseminate not only political and news information about Ukraine, but also stories about interesting, unusual and special things in our country to foreign audiences.
