Fines for listening to Russian music: new law

New fines for listening to Russian music appear in Ukraine. These initiated changes make more sense than simply rejecting Russia’s cultural influence; they are aimed at supporting Ukraine’s own national heritage in this area. This decision is reflected in the text of Draft Law No. 9547.

Already last year, on June 19, the Law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Supporting the National Music Product and Restricting the Public Use of Music Material of the Aggressor State” was adopted.

In accordance with Article 15 of the Law of Ukraine “On Culture”, it is also prohibited in public:

  • perform phonograms and video games,
  • show music videos featuring citizens of the Russian Federation.

Public performance, display, demonstration, notification in commercial establishments, public catering establishments, and the service sector, as well as distribution of music phonograms, video recordings, and video clips that are prohibited for use, are subject to fines:

  • from 300 to 500 tax-free minimum incomes, or from UAH 5,100 to 8,500;
  • for repeated violation – from 1,000 to 1,500 tax-free minimum incomes, or from UAH 17,000 to 25,500.
