May 9 – Europe Day: a new decree by Volodymyr Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree to celebrate May 9 as Europe Day jointly with the European Union.
“realizing the European identity of the Ukrainian people, in order to strengthen the unity of the peoples of Europe, ensure peace, security and stability on the European continent, testifying to the ideals and values of democracy, supporting the initiatives of youth and other public associations.”
“To establish a Europe Day in Ukraine, to be celebrated annually on May 9 together with the states of the European Union. This Decree shall enter into force on the day of its publication,” the text of the decree on the website of the Presidential Office reads.
In addition, the President published a video address in which he proposes to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II. The relevant bill has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada .
