Holy Week: what you can and cannot do on the eve of Easter
Holy Week is the last week before Easter. During this time, Christian believers observe Lent. What can and cannot be done during this period?
Monday
On Monday, a very strict fast begins, which should be observed all 6 days before Easter. During this period, you can only eat food of plant origin. Do not eat fish and meat dishes. Eggs, milk, butter, and other dairy products should also be limited from your diet.
Tuesday
On this day, you can do all the household chores, such as laundry, cleaning carpets, and preparing your festive clothes for Easter.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, the last of the garbage is taken out of the house. This is also the day when people start stocking up on everything they need for the Easter basket. It is forbidden to visit cemeteries and go to the graves of loved ones. You should not sharpen knives to avoid making your loved ones sick.
Thursday
On this day, believers should take communion. On Maundy Thursday, they also prepare the house for Easter by baking cakes and painting eggs. Girls cut their hair on this day to make it grow well.
Holy Week: Friday
Good Friday is the strictest and most mournful day of Lent. On Friday, Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross and died. On Good Friday, you can’t do anything around the house. Similarly, you cannot sing, dance, or listen to music.
Saturday
On Saturday, priests bless Easter baskets. On this day, the Holy Fire descends in Jerusalem. On this day, you can do all the housework and prepare a festive table for Easter. There is only one prohibition: you cannot borrow anything.
Sunday
On Sunday morning or at night, the great Easter service begins. On this day, we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ with our families.
