Olena-Kristina Lebed revealed the details of a popular scam

Olena-Kristina Lebed Olena-Kristina Lebid, host of the project “Scammers in the Networks” on the New Channel, explained how to recognize a current fraudulent scheme that Ukrainians often fall for

While real charitable foundations are helping Ukrainians affected by Russian aggression, scammers are making money on people’s misfortunes. The host of the project “Scammers in the Networks” spoke in detail about a popular online fraud scheme.

“It’s a scam: ‘Charitable Foundation – help for free! Advertisements with this phrase appear on social media. All a person has to do is click the “Apply” button. Often, scammers write in personal messages. “So check your correspondence and don’t fall for it!” says Olena-Kristina Lebed. “You will receive a response from a supposed employee of the foundation: “Write down what you need – from food to clothes. We will send everything in large packages absolutely free of charge! Regardless of the size of the cargo and its contents.” Considering the number of displaced people in Ukraine and people who have been left without everything or with one suitcase and a ruined life, they are being led. The victims lose their minds with happiness, write long lists of things they need and mentally rejoice that they will improve their situation at least a little.”

Then the manager of the charity fund will write that they have collected goods worth 40 thousand hryvnias. They put not only everything on your list, but much more. And even one smartphone – though not an iPhone, it’s also decent. They say it is so important to stay in touch and help each other now.

“It’s understandable that after such a thing a person loses his head and almost cries with happiness. And then the manager says: “We have only one request, and it’s for everyone: pay the shipping fee of 300 UAH. We can’t send to thousands of people at our own expense, because we buy so many useful things with this money!” The victim doesn’t even think about it – there are 40 thousand worth of goods, and here is only 300 hryvnias. Of course, he decides to transfer the money and asks where exactly. The scammer replies: “To this phone number.” And after that, that’s it – the person is blocked, thus leaving them without the goods, without the dream of how things will improve, and without the last of their money. Unfortunately, for many people this is the case…”
