Cellist from Ireland supports Ukraine with a touching video
Cellist Patrick Dexter from Ireland demonstrated his support with a touching performance of the Ukrainian folk song “Oh, in the Cherry Orchard”. To create this video, the musician waited for the storm season, which occurs in the west of Ireland every year.
“The news from the far end of the European continent continues to be relentlessly upsetting. Folk tunes have been playing in my head, waiting for the weather to turn bad so I can go out and send a tune from my cello to the Atlantic. I offer my melody to the wild winds that blow from the ocean and the east toward Ukraine, sending love and hope to all people. May peace soon return to this continent,” Dexter wrote in the description under videos on YouTube.
Subscribers left many comments under Patrick’s video:
“Thank you for your sensual performance of the Ukrainian folk song. It is special to me, my mother used to sing it to me instead of a lullaby throughout my childhood. But now I haven’t seen my mother for more than a year, she survived ten months of occupation and daily interrogations. I had to save my little son’s life and move to England. I look forward to the day when I can see and hug my mom.”
“Your beautiful and emotional performance made my heart ache. Thank you.”
“Thank you! You play very well, every Ukrainian knows this song, it has been and will be played in every Ukrainian home. And your performance is one of the best readings of this song! Bravo!”
“This is amazing. Thank you from Ukrainians. I sing this song to my daughter before she goes to bed, we haven’t been home for over a year. Thank you for your support!”
“My grandmother used to sing this song to me in Donbas. Patrick, thank you very much for your beautiful performance and support of our country.”
