Draft law on “foreign agents” withdrawn from Georgian parliament

Georgia Georgia: the draft law on “foreign agents” is withdrawn from the parliament.

The Georgian Dream parliamentary majority decided to withdraw the draft law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” that had already been passed in the first reading and had caused mass protests.

“We must be attentive to peace, tranquility and economic development in our country, as well as to Georgia’s progress on the path of European integration. Therefore, it is necessary that the energy of each of our fellow citizens be spent not on confrontation, but on developing the country in the right direction. “, – this is stated in the statement , published on the website of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party .

The decision was made in connection with “the current political processes around the law,” following consultations between the political council of Georgian Dream, Narodna Syla, and members of the parliamentary majority.
