Corset as a symbol of freedom: the best looks from Ukrainian designers

On March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day, which is a day to not only congratulate women, but also to celebrate their achievements and support their freedoms in every way possible. It is interesting that recently a corset has become one of the trendy elements and a symbol of women’s freedom. This piece of clothing has been worn by European women since the late 16th century, subsequently changing its shape in accordance with the evolution of fashion. Fashion legends Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier helped the corset to enter a new era, where it turned from a synonym for oppression into a symbol of female power. The punk queen presented her first corsets in the 1970s, suggesting that they be worn over clothes. From now on, the corset does not limit women, but gives them confidence.

GURANDA

“Through the language of fashion, I try to talk about the flow and cyclical nature of history, about the choices women have made over the centuries, and about the importance of their freedom,” says designer Elena Guranda.

The new collection is about the right of women to wear what they want. You can feel the spirit of freedom in every image, product or detail. Iconic corset details and a feminine accentuated waistline permeate most of Elena Guranda’s works. The designer tells the story of the corset: from painful to playful. Obviously, women have been lacing themselves up for centuries, but this fantastic item with a hint of lingerie can do so much more than create beautiful curves. GURANDA offers variations of corsets as a symbol of new opportunities. Corsets can also be seen over a T-shirt or mini-skirt or in stylish denim looks. From season to season, Elena Guranda never tires of experimenting with ultra-feminine cuts, occasionally wearing a corset over her clothes, not under them.

Ivan Frolov promotes fetish and frankness, so this trend seems to have been created for his brand. The FROLOV collections include corsets of all variants and colors. High or cinching only the hips and waist, with or without crystals, with stocking clips or flat, with needles hidden in the inner structure of the corset or, conversely, brought out. By the way, recently Beyonce wore a pink corset dress Firework, supporting the trend and the Ukrainian fashion industry.

LEVER COUTURE

Lesya Verlingieri, a Ukrainian and founder of the brand Lever Couture, creates not just dresses, but real art objects. That is why it is chosen by stars such as Lady Gaga, Milla Jovovich and Heidi Klum. And the designer plays with the corset theme in a very creative way – in the brand’s lookbook, it appears in the form of transparent plastic over an incredible pink couture dress.
