Ukrainian film “A House Made of Splinters” nominated for Oscar
American Film Academy has announced the nominees. Among them is the Ukrainian documentary A House Made of Splinters. The film, co-produced by Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland, will compete for the Oscar 2023 in the “Best Documentary Feature category”. This happened for the first time in the history of independent Ukraine.
The plot centers on the poignant story of three children who have been temporarily separated from their parents. While waiting for their fate to be decided, Eva, Sasha, and Kolya find friendship and glimmers of hope in the old walls of the Lysychansk orphanage near the front line in eastern Ukraine. A group of social workers creates a much-needed safe space for children and gives them moments of joy and peace.
Earlier, the film “A House Made of Splinters” won the prize for Best Director in the international documentary competition program at the Sundance Film Festival.
