Eurovision 2023: the first event of the season
On January 31, the first solemn event of Eurovision 2023 will take place – the ceremony of handing over the symbolic key to the host city of this year’s song contest – Liverpool. The event will also include a draw, which will distribute the performances of the participating countries between the two semifinals. It will also determine in which of them the countries of the “Big Five” and Ukraine will vote.
The ceremony will take place in Liverpool in front of an audience. Among the participants – Chairman of the Board of Public Broadcasting Mykola Chernotytskyi and Head of the Ukrainian delegation to Eurovision Oksana Skybinska.
“On this day, the artistic design and slogan of the competition will be unveiled, which is unique in its nature. After all, it takes place in the UK, but on behalf of Ukraine and with Ukraine in its heart. In order to reflect this unique feature of Eurovision 2023 and show Ukraine in various aspects of the contest, our team has been actively cooperating with the BBC team since autumn”she said. The event will be broadcast live on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. The audience will see live how the Mayor of Turin, the host city of last year’s contest, Stefano Lo Russo will hand over the official Eurovision keys to the Mayor of Liverpool Joanne Anderson. The event’s hosts, Rylan and AJ Odudu, will then conduct a draw with the help of young people from a local Liverpool school and members of the Ukrainian community who have settled in Liverpool since the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine.
This year, representatives of 37 countries are taking part in Eurovision. Thirty-one of them will participate in the draw for the semifinals, which will take place 9 and 11 May. To the big final On May 13, Ukraine as the winner of the last year’s contest, representatives of the “Big Five” countries (Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Germany), which are the founders of the contest, as well as 10 contestants from each semi-final will automatically enter .
