Vadym Oliynyk: From now on I want to sing exclusively in Ukrainian - 1 - изображение

The famous Ukrainian singer Vadym Oliynyk, who  has been volunteering since the beginning of the war, told exclusively for Woman how the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine changed his life and the vector of his professional activity.

How have you personally and your life values changed?

A lot has changed. The first is a sense of unity and one emotional state in which our entire people is. I call my relatives more, I help people on the street, I hug my beloved more often. Now the main thing is not to “sour” it.

In your opinion, are bloggers and opinion leaders now obliged to wage an informational war against fakes? Is it important to keep covering events?

Of course, it is important to write everything that is really happening. About the fact that Russia is killing Ukrainians, about the missiles with which Ukrainian cities are constantly bombarded.

You released your own version of Oleksandr Ponomaryov’s track “Why did she cry so bitterly?” How did the war affect your work?

I realized that from now on I want to sing exclusively in Ukrainian. And now I am ready to experiment and look for new interesting genres. I chose the composition “Why did she cry so bitterly” because it stuck in my head since childhood, and when the war started, I often listened to it with headphones, and then I decided to ask Oleksandr if I could make my version and he agreed.

What about personal life? Do events exacerbate emotions and feelings?

Yes, during the war, emotions intensify and very often I noticed that I was in a “psychological pit”. My beloved was always by my side and we went through many different trials with her and now we have an idyll. It is important at such a moment to support each other, to talk a lot, to be distracted, because every day we read the news from the frontline, hear the alarm in the air.

You also support Ukraine with volunteer work. Do you feel that every day fewer and fewer people are able to help?

Yes, I worked for three months at the volunteer defense headquarters in Chernivtsi. He helped as much as he could, loading and unloading humanitarian aid.
I can say that during the 4 months of the war, I saw that many people were really exhausted and, for one reason or another, were unable to help to the extent that it was at the beginning of the war. But all the same, I see how many artists I know are actively helping the army. What is the value of 4 Bayraktars collected by the Serhiy Prytula Foundation!

How do you renew your energy for volunteering?

Singing helps me! I come home, turn on any Ukrainian song (usually folk) and sing. It immediately becomes easier on the soul

Have you had problems with survivor syndrome?

I thought about it. That’s why I went to work as a volunteer so that I wouldn’t have that feeling.
