The band “Druha Rika” presented a remix to his latest touching song “Did you hear”, created by musician and producer Andriy Boyev (yan boyEV). Release original version heard and saw the world on July 1 of this year. The song quickly gained popularity  popularity and became a kind of symbol of the return to life, despite the tragic circumstances in the country.

“Remixes of ballad songs are a difficult task. A banal change of pace cannot be dispensed with. With such a format, the number one task before the DJ becomes  – give her a new one  sound without losing the main message”. – think the musicians of the band.

An old friend of “Druha Rika”, musician, producer and video maker, Andriy Boyev (yan boyEV) took up the idea of making a remix of “Did you hear”:

“I think I managed to breathe another life into this track without changing the structure and atmosphere, I preferred to give it a more upbeat  mood, despite the tragic nature of the topic as a whole.”

The band members compare the new sound of the song to early remixes  The Cure,  Depeche Mode and the new wave of the mid/late 90s and note that a similar sound is now back in trend.

Fascinated by the process, yan boyEV ventured into another experiment, creating an alternative version of his own remix of “Did you hear”.  In which, in contrast to the dynamic synthetic sound of the main track, the alternative is slow and reliable  is sinking  in the lounge  The monumentality of this version is given by the unexpected, but organically integrated lines of the eternal poem by T. G. Shevchenko’s “Thoughts, My Thoughts”, pulling the track from the sofa lounge to eclectic Ukrainian wartime hip-hop. The lounge version of the remix will be available for listening on streaming services at a later date.

“In general, I don’t really like remixes, especially when “dancers” brutally replace the dance rhythm section, not changing the groove, but stupidly speeding up  track. Or, some “experimentalists” resort to the primitive  deceleration,  along with sliding tonality. I am impressed when a producer-musician undertakes the production of a remix and, on the basis of a well-known hit, really reproduces a new composition that gets the right to an independent existence, if only because it is radically different from the original source, reminding the original track only in the main  signs This is not mainstream. But I, personally, as a musician, like it when songs that you have performed hundreds of times “automatically” acquire not just a new sound, but become something else.

I’m not sure that such remixes are “about showbiz”. They are rather for musicians, so to speak – for internal listening. Such remixes were created for us by our old friend, musician, producer and photographer yan boyEV (Andriy Boyev). He always managed to surprise us, but this time, we want to surprise you too.” – commented the frontman of the band “Druha Rika” Valery Kharchyshyn.

“Did you hear” also has an acoustic version, which can be heard along with other songs from “Druha Rika” at the “INSHA RIKA” charity concert on October 8 in Kyiv.
