Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96. This was announced by Buckingham Palace.

Elizabeth II was one of the longest-reigning monarchs in history. She ascended the throne on February 6, 1952, the day her father King George VI died and ruled for 70 long years.

After her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country as the new king.

The state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place on the 10th-12th day after her death. The subjects will be able to say goodbye to the monarch, the coffin with her body will be in Westminster Abbey all this time.

Interesting facts about Elizabeth II

  • As a child, Elizabeth had the nickname “Lilibet” because the princess could not pronounce her name.
