VERKA SERDUCHKA in the largest hall in Brooklyn
On September 9, as part of VERKA SERDUCHKA’s North American tour in support of Ukraine, the band held a grand show in New York City at the largest and most luxurious concert hall in Brooklyn – King’s Theatre. Almost 3,000 spectators were waiting to meet the star, but they might not have been able to due to an unpleasant coincidence.
On a flight from Chicago, Andriy Danylko and his team made an emergency landing in Connecticut: first, the plane could not land because of the airport’s congestion, and then a thunderstorm broke out and turned it around. Thunder, lightning, wind, hours of waiting at the gate, and eventually the flight being rescheduled for the morning. New York is three hours away by car, but for one thing: the luggage with the suits is being held hostage by airport employees who are forbidden to issue suitcases during a thunderstorm. When the weather calmed down, there was almost no time left (another 40 minutes would have been enough to cancel the concert). However, the organizers of Resilience Entertainment delivered everyone to the location by taxi almost on time – fast and obscenely expensive.
The audience waited patiently, but the hour-long delay was worth it – Verka and her mother had a real breakup. Along with the artists, absolutely everyone sang, danced, and sent Putin in a known direction, even Ed Steinberg, a friend and director of Madonna’s early videos. He saw Serdyuchka live for the first time and was sincerely impressed by the level of performance.
A particularly touching episode of the concert was Verka’s performance of Toto Cutugno’s hit L’italiano. The Italian singer, who recently passed away, was a good friend of Andriy Danylko’s, always treated him well. From the stage, the artist told the story of their acquaintance and showed photos from his personal archive, and at the end of the performance he said: “Ciao, Toto, thank you for your childhood.”
In short, this adrenaline-pumping adventure ended in a very American way – with a real sensation and a happy ending. Of course, to the soundtrack of Make It Rain Champagne.
Meanwhile, VERKA SERDUCHKA’s North American tour continues. There are three concerts ahead: 13.09 in Toronto, 16.09 in San Francisco and 17.09 in Los Angeles. Overseas fans, tickets are still available, so don’t waste your time – book here.
