Dmytro Karpachev

Dmytro Karpachev, host of the psychological reality TV show Supermama on STB and an expert in childhood psychology, explained how parents should explain prohibitions to their children.

Starting from August 28, STB viewers will see the premiere episodes of the reality series Supermom! The program will address issues that are relevant to every mom! As before, Dmytro Karpachov will share valuable tips and life hacks in raising children that will be useful to parents. For example, the TV presenter told the social network how to properly forbid children.

“What is the right way to say ‘no’ to children? 7 basic rules:
  1. “Not allowed” means unacceptable and life-threatening things.
  2. Whenever possible, replace the word “cannot” with “dangerous”.
  3. There should be few “can’ts”, otherwise it will be devalued and the child will stop hearing it.
  4. “You can’t” implies specific consequences if the child violates the ban.
  5. Along with “you can’t”, you need to explain what is possible and when. Offer an alternative: “This is not possible, but it is possible.”
  6. If the situation permits, replace the can’ts with explanations. For example: “Give me your hand, we’ll cross the road together. It is dangerous for a child to cross the road alone.”
  7. Can’t means can’t.

Prohibitions in education are necessary and important, but they should not be the main tool of education. The bans have an auxiliary function,” says Dmytro Karpachov.
