10 most common makeup mistakes
Despite many years of makeup practice, many of us make some very common, but quite preventable, makeup mistakes that can be avoided by incorporating one or two simple steps or simply skipping the usual practice. So, to make your way to perfect makeup go smoothly, we list the most common makeup mistakes and why you should avoid them.
Do not use primer and moisturizer
One of the most common makeup mistakes is skipping primer. The base evens out the skin, smoothes wrinkles, masks enlarged pores, redness and minor blemishes. In addition, the primer significantly improves the ability of the foundation to give you a flawless look and prolongs its staying power throughout the day. And of course, don’t forget about moisturizer, as makeup dries out the skin mercilessly. So, the ideal order is moisturizer, primer, and finally foundation.
Applies foundation evenly
Too much foundation is not good for your face or your makeup. At best, your face will look sticky, at worst, like a mask. In fact, if you prefer light and natural makeup, you don’t need to apply foundation all over your face: just apply it to the cheeks, nose, and under-eye area and blend from the center to the edges, and concealer will help to mask spots and pimples.
Forget about the neck
The neck is the second most exposed part of the body after the face (and also the closest to it) and a mismatch in tone can make your face appear isolated and your neck look older. To avoid this, apply foundation to your neck and blend it well.
To be fond of mascara
We all need long, thick eyelashes, so it’s only natural that we go overboard from time to time. A couple of extra movements and the eyes are framed by spider legs or threatening spears. For perfect lashes, all you need is mascara with a convenient curling brush, 1-2 coats and the willpower not to continue.
Bronze the whole face
With highlighter, luminizer, and shimmer, the bronzer is often lost somewhere in the chaos of powder. And sometimes inexperienced home makeup artists use so much of this sun-kissed mixture that they end up looking more orange than brown. When applying bronzer, think about where the sun naturally hits your skin the most and draw an imaginary “3” on your face: gently around the hairline, on the top of the cheekbones and around the jawline.
Choosing the wrong shade of foundation
Using the wrong shade of foundation is one of the most common makeup mistakes that makes your face look like it doesn’t belong to the rest of your body. A paler foundation makes you look older, emphasizes spots, wrinkles, light imperfections, and simply deprives you of your natural glow. As for the darker tone, let’s leave it in 2007, along with the tan effect. Choose your foundation by applying it to the upper cheekbone instead of the brush and in daylight. Ideally, the tone should blend in with the skin without creating a border or transition line.
Be fond of eyebrows
Despite the fact that eyebrows are going through an amazing period of maximum naturalness, some people tend to go a little overboard with this trend, overly plumping and thickening the brows, making them look thick and unkempt. Use light strokes to emphasize your natural brow shape without darkening it or drawing straight, unnatural lines.
Applying too much blush or forgetting about it
Just as the right blush application can give you a natural and radiant look, so too much, the wrong shade or the wrong placement can undo all your efforts. Match the blush to your skin tone and, after shaking off the excess product, apply lightly to the cheekbones or apples of your cheeks, depending on your face shape. To finish, don’t forget to add light touches to the bridge of the nose and chin.
No shading
If you really want a flawless “no makeup” look, insufficient shading (or lack thereof) is one of the worst makeup mistakes to avoid. If the foundation and blush lines are clearly visible, and your face looks sticky and blotchy, you haven’t spent enough time shading. Include it as a mandatory step in your routine, using circular motions to apply the product evenly on the skin.
Lip color is not the last thing to do
Lipstick should be the last product you apply in your makeup routine. Any other order, and you risk uneven lip lines, a blurred shade, or powder islands on your lips. In addition, applying primer and foundation to your lips before you reach for your lipstick will give you a blank canvas on which to paint your perfect lips.
