The best Ukrainian weightlifters and their coaches received a substantial cash incentive from Epicenter Group for winning the 2021 European Championships.

Oleksandr Gerega, President of the Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation, Member of Parliament and co-founder of Epicenter K, congratulated Ukrainian athletes on their victory.

“At the last European Championships, our weightlifters collected a real harvest of gold medals. These sporting victories provide a clear incentive to continue working. So, after the championship, Epicenter will invest even more in the development of Ukrainian sports – this is our social contribution and our company’s mission. Very soon we will go to Kharkiv to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a new modern Center – a sports complex for the Olympic reserve with at least 50 platforms. Kharkiv region gives us great results and faith in the future of many Ukrainian sports. That is why we want to support sports not only in Khmelnytsky region, where five modern Epicenter sports complexes have been built and are successfully operating, but also in eastern Ukraine,” said Oleksandr Gerega.

He also plans to revive sports traditions in the Dnipro region.

As a reminder, at the 2021 European Championships in Moscow, the Ukrainian weightlifting team won a record number of medals, taking first place in the overall medal standings and winning 6 medals: four gold, one silver, and one bronze.

In total, the Ukrainian champions brought home 17 medals, including awards in the clean and jerk, shot put, and all-around, including 10 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.

This is the first time that the Ukrainian weightlifting team has won so many medals at the European Championships. Despite the fact that it was not easy for our athletes to win awards in an international competition held in the aggressor country.

“I am sincerely proud that the anthem of Ukraine was played four times this spring in Moscow – this is the number of gold medals won by sportsmen and women in the overall standings of the 2021 European Championships. Also, the flag of Ukraine was raised 17 times during the Championships, for each of the awards received. The Olympics are ahead, where I hope the weightlifters will demonstrate a high level of performance. We, for our part, will do our best to prepare them for the competition in the best possible way,” said Galyna Gerega, co-founder of Epicenter K.

The company’s prizes were awarded to the national team champions – Dmytro Chumak, Iryna Deha, Kamila Konotop, Alina Marushchak, Anastasia Lysenko, Dmytro Voronovsky, coaches of the women’s and men’s national teams and personal coaches of the athletes.

At the 2021 European Championships, Ukrainians defeated weightlifters from 37 countries.

Ukrainian weightlifter Dmytro Chumak won two gold medals in the 109 kg weight category – in the clean and jerk (226 kg) and the all-around (407 kg).

Weightlifter Anastasia Lysenko in the +87 kg weight category took second place in the clean and jerk (116 kg), the shot put (136 kg) and the all-around (252 kg), winning three silver medals.

Iryna Deha and Kamila Konotop also performed well, setting European records in the clean and jerk, shot put, and all-around sum. Kamila Konotop won three gold medals in the 55 kg weight category: 95 kg in the clean and jerk, 113 kg in the shot put, and 208 kg in the all-around, becoming the absolute European champion. Iryna Dekha won three gold medals in the 76 kg weight category, with a score of 113 kg in the clean and jerk, 135 kg in the push and 248 kg in the all-around, and became the absolute European champion.

Another one of our weightlifters, Alina Marushchak, won two gold medals in the 81 kg weight category: 109 kg in the clean and jerk and 236 kg in the all-around, and bronze in the clean and jerk with 127 kg.

In the weight category of up to 55 kg, Ukrainian weightlifters won three bronze medals. Two of them were won by Dmytro Voronovsky in the clean and jerk (137 kg) and the all-around (247 kg), and one by a young athlete Angelina Lomachinskaya, who took third place in the snatch (67 kg).

“The victory in the overall medal standings at the European Championships is a merit of our female and male athletes, their coaches, as well as the Federation and patrons. In particular, Oleksandr Gerega, who, despite the difficult times, supports Ukrainian weightlifters in every way possible, providing them with decent conditions for quality training at the Epicenter sports complexes and paying scholarships to the strongest athletes, in particular, Iryna Deha, Anastasia Lysenko and Dmytro Chumak. That is why, despite the presence of serious rivals, our team, even after a long break in international competitions, which were canceled last year due to the pandemic, is showing good results today,” said Yuriy Kuchinov, head coach of the Ukrainian women’s weightlifting team.

This European Weightlifting Championships was the last licensing competition for the 2020 Olympic Games to be held this summer in Japan.

“When the Ukrainian national anthem was played in Moscow, I said to myself, ‘We did it! 99.9% of my success is due to the Epicenter Sports Club, which provides the best opportunities for training Ukrainian weightlifters – modern sports equipment and sports facilities, high-quality rehabilitation services, three meals a day of high-calorie sports nutrition, as well as direct funding for many other necessary elements for training. All of this has a very good effect on the process of training and preparation for international competitions,” says Dmytro Chumak, Ukrainian weightlifter, three-time European champion and silver medalist of the World Championships, international master of sports.
