Vlad Darwin presented the project “DJ for Ukraine”

DJ for Ukraine

In the capital, on the International Day of Charity,  the presentation of the unique project ” DJ for Ukraine ” took place,  the main purpose of which is to create a charity catalog of Ukrainian folklore samples and, of course, to attract financial aid to Ukraine from abroad. The program includes both the preservation of national musical heritage and the creation of new original samples by Ukrainian folk musicians and bands. DJs and producers from all over the world will be able to use the sample library for donations in their remixes, songs, videos and movies. Funds from the sale of the catalog will be directed to help the Armed Forces through the Ukraine Alive 2022 fund. The idea of creating the project belongs to the Ukrainian composer and producer Vlad Darwin.

The project will last at least a year. Accumulation of the sample catalog is currently underway.

Sound producers, musicians and journalists were invited to Kimberli Bar for a press brunch on the occasion of the launch of a charity initiative. “DJ for Ukraine” created the atmosphere  resident Kiss FM 2K DJ, who combined Ukrainian ethnicity and electronica in his set. The event was attended by the soloist of the band [O] Olya Chernyshova, bandur player Yevhen Yovenko, publicist and music journalist Serhiy Kane, producer Vadym Lysytsia, composer Paul Solonar, showman Sanya Dymov and others. Ruslana sent her video message to the guests of the presentation. The trading house “Wine of the World” acted as a partner of the event.

Vlad Darwin started the presentation by describing the concept of the project  and familiarized the guests with the structure of the site  “DJ for Ukraine”.  As part of the opening of the project, performances by folklore groups took place.

The youth girl group “Viltse” from Kyiv sang traditional Ukrainian wedding songs without editing, as they sounded hundreds of years ago. Collective  “Pike Fish”  reproduced the musical folklore of different regions of Ukraine in a form as close as possible to the expedition recordings. Powerful a cappella performances of folk songs by both groups caused genuine emotions of delight for all the guests of the presentation.

The performance of the band from Kolomyia, T.Hutsuls, was also a surprise for all those present at the event. This is the first performance in Kyiv of a new collective from Kolomyia, which broadcasts Hutsul culture in a new format. Pop vocals, bandura and DJ are organically combined in the work of T.Hutsuls.

Vlad addressed all the musicians and sound producers who attended the press brunch:

“Colleagues, join “DJ for Ukraine”. Every unique sample that carries the code of Ukraine and that can increase the value of the catalog is important to us. A long way. But the most difficult thing is to take the first step.”

Right at the presentation, on stage, Vlad agreed with Ukrainian sound producers about studio recordings of Wiltse folk bands  and Pike Fish. Based on these recordings, exclusive samples will be made to complement the charity catalog.

The Hutsul Arkan Sample Pack was the first of the sample packs to be shown to the general public. It was on the basis of samples from this pack that the composition Ukraine is Alive was created. This song became the title track of the “DJ for Ukraine” project and the anthem of the “Ukraine Alive 2022” charity organization.

We rejoice and sincerely believe that the world music community will continue to support us, joining charity and spreading Ukrainian cultural achievements!
